Getting in shape for the backcountry is not for sissies.  But it is absolutely necessary for you, to avoid injury, and general failure; your body needs to be a well-oiled machine for extreme hiking and backpacking.

Fortunately, you can get into shape for extreme backcountry trips, without a gym membership.  There is a ton of diet and fitness information available here, and many workouts you can accomplish without joining a gym.  In fact, you can incorporate many of these exercises into your daily routine, at home, or in the workplace.

The key to success is motivation; I find that just the thought of heading back into the High Rockies or the Sierras for an elk or deer hunt, is enough to get me on a serious path to outdoor fitness.  Because of my hunting lifestyle, I have made changes to my diet and daily routine, that allow me to remain in top condition all year long.  As a matter of fact, at 50 years of age, I am in the best physical condition of my life.

There are always excuses, most commonly, “I just do not have time to get in shape”.  We can help you use the time you have more efficiently, and I promise, you will feel better, you will look better, and you will live longer, without problems!
